Joy has a Mile Mark

More joy is on the way! Wisdom says, “Be strong!” Are you ready to handle more joy at your work? The ability to hold great joy demands great strength.

Your employer may focus exclusively on economy power. Divine Intelligence employs your work (you + coworkers), to restore balance. You are a shepherd at your work. Through your leadership, spiritual well-being is presented to the work force.

In joy, people spontaneously go the second mile. Mistakes are mistakes but dumb mistakes are different. Often mistakes are attitude based. Have you heard it said, “They don’t pay me enough to do that!”

In Jesus’ day, Roman soldiers patrolled streets and alleys. Their patrol was hot and long. Armor, weapons and backpack weighed 60 pounds. A Roman soldier could conscript any Hebrew male and command that person to carry the soldiers pack for one mile. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus taught, “If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.”

Hebrew males deeply hated the Roman law of the One Mile. Jesus taught that the second mile is voluntary and worth it. Hate and resentment reside in the first mile. Joy manifests in the second mile.

Joy is the undiscovered key to efficiency. Go beyond what is required. All the joy known by your Sunday morning church-me, is offered to your work-me. Joyful people do not labor solely for money. Joy is its own paycheck. Never underestimate the joy effect. Upset and anger cloud the mind. When upset, people become antagonistic to new ideas.

The good shepherd at work restores balance. The bottom line needs a spiritual counterweight. Learn the secret of the second mile. Joy comes from Christ. Joy manifests at work. The first step in manifesting joy is personal. The good work-shepherd must embody joy, then share it. Best example is the work-shepherd who acknowledges their own mistakes, but with great joy.
